Why isn’t anyone coming to my website? Is a question I see a lot out there on Facebook groups, you have the shiny new website, it’s launched and then ………………
Well lets just say they aren’t exactly beating your door in terms of visitor numbers?
We have seen it with previous clients as well, who have thought that all they needed to do was have their website created and then they were sorted, customers would just flock to them.
Maybe this is all sounding familiar to you? If it is then don’t worry, its a common problem and one that you can sort! (without declaring that you will just close your website as “it’s clearly not working”)
Look before you designed and launched your website, I’m sure you planned it all out. You sorted out your branding, you planned what pages your new website would have, you wrote the content, picked the images, sorted out a list building offer etc etc.
In other words you put a lot of time and effort into planning your website BEFORE it even began?
Which is exactly what you should have done, here’s the thing though. The post launch part of your website needs just as much planning if not more than the pre launch does!
When you are planning your website, you have to make a marketing plan for your site post launch.
So how do you make sure that your website gets the traffic it deserves?
SEO SEO SEO:
When you are setting up your website make sure you have your SEO plan in place. Do your keyword research, know what search phrases you plan to target in Google etc and then make sure you set up your onsite SEO (use a plug in like all in one SEO or Yoast to help make this task easier)
Once your onsite SEO is done make a plan for your offsite SEO, remember to not only SEO your main business pages but if you do your SEO correctly your blog could be a great source of SEO traffic.
Content Content Content
Create a content plan and strategy for your website. How often will you blog or vlog? What topics are you going to talk about in your vlogs.
They key to driving traffic through content creation is to make sure that its high quality content that really offers value to the person reading it. That way they are more like to share it with others!
Link your website to your social media profiles
There are a number of social media platforms out there and whether you choose to use them all or just a select few, make sure put your website URL in your bio, include it at the bottom of any graphics you share, use the facebook button to send visitors to your site! Make it easy for people to make their way from your social media profile to your website.
Promotion Promotion Promotion.
Get yourself out there, write guest articles for places like huffington post, guest blog where its appropriate. Don’t be afraid to advertise your website. You can run ad’s on Google, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest. It might be a bit of trial and error until you find what works best for your business but it will be worth it.
You have this great new site that you have spent time and money on, now its up to you give it the time and attention it deserves.
So make sure you always have a marketing plan for you website, this plan will change over time as you discover what works well and what doesn’t for your site, but the most important thing is to have that plan and get your site out there for people to see!!
